Old School: Remington 870/ Kicks .655, .660. 28" bbl
« on: May 26, 2017, 10:06:14 PM »
Going old school. Gun is set up to shoot Hevi 13 with a 21"bbl. Have a 28" bbl and Kicks .655 and .660.   Barrel has Hastings CT-2 threads/ tru-choke.  Off season testing, going to run Winchester 3 inch lead loads in 5's and 6's and see what I come up with at 40. Hoping to break 100 with 5's and 130 with 6's. Results to follow. Done some work on the barrel lately so it is worth going out an shooting to see what it will do.

Sounds like fun. Going to use Super X or XX loads?

Yes the old HV, XX before they made them the same load. Also the Super-X red shell 1 7/8 ounce. I'm pretty sure that the Winchester Longbeards would shoot super tight patterns out of this barrel but going more for a 30-35 yd gun. Gun to teach my boys to hunt with that they can shoot beads and not have an overly tight pattern.

Best patterns that I came up with:

138 in a 10 @ 40. Kicks .655/ Win 1 7/8 6’s
105 in a 10 @ 40. Kicks .660/ Win 1 3/4 5’s

Great hunting set ups inside 40yds. Brutal inside 30yds.

28” bbl with the 138 and 105.

Higher temps and polished barrels. These were some of the best results.

21” bbl/ Kicks .655/ Win 3/2/6’s (Red Shell)
110-115 in a 10 @ 40
150- 160 in a 10 @ 35
*inside 30 this set up is brutal and the gun that I use in thick timber.

21” bbl/ Hevi Shot .662/ Hevi 3/2/7’s
290’s in a 10 @ 40.
*dont hunt with this set up much.
