Getting my Mossberg 500 set up and hoping to shoot some thise weekend.
I have an SSX and a Carlsons 575 with some TSS to try out.
I have seen and heard some # at 40 yds. Does anyone have some pics at
Around 20 yards?

I am wondering how tight the pattern is at that range. This will be my 1st year going
To the 20 gauge. Seems like the birds I have killed where either close, 20 yards and under
Or pushing the 40 yd line: not much in between.

I plan on shooting some in close, so I will post some pics.

      Thanks, John

No pics but my 20's all are about the size of a soccer ball with TSS 9 shot.
Don't gobble at me...

I would say my hand loaded 9s are about the same as the other guys that have commented.  Hard not to hit one shooting something the size of a soccer ball at it. Killed a bird last year at 20 yards and had no issue.  If you ever shot Fed HW 7s then the pattern will be more open that that for sure.

Soccer ball size pattern is great, I was afriad it may have been a softball size.

My 21" 870 with a .555 Indian Creek is about a 8 or 9 inch circle at 20 yards with 1 5/8 oz tss #9, my son in the same gun is using a .575 Carlson  and his patterns are probably 10" at 20 yards.

The core is crazy tight but there is plenty of margin for error! think my tube is a .580?  factory tube, shot spot on poi/poa and patterned good enough I didn't even try anything else.

I haven't killed a bird much past 30 yards since shooting the stuff.

I have not patterned mine at 20, but was told by Sumtoy and the Apex guys to expect a basketball size pattern at 20 with my .570 choke.

Franchi Affinity Compact 20 gauge with a .575 Carlson's and handloaded 2 3/4" 1 7/16oz 9s. 288 at 40 yards and still very open at 20 yards... the picture with no circle drawn is the 20 yarder.
