I've decided I want to build a new turkey gun from an existing 20g 870 I have. For 30+ years I've been shooting just a bead but I wanted to do something different so I ordered a Shurshot stock, saddle mount and went with a TruGlo Gobbler Stopper red dot.
The mount and red dot came in yesterday and I installed it on the gun today. I bought the Weaver Saddle mount, which apparently is built for the 12g but has shims for the 20 to make it fit. That makes it sit up off the top of the receiver a bit.
All that being said, I'm not happy how high everything sits above the receiver. It very well could be that I'm too used to shooting just a bead and it will take some time for me to adjust but it feels very unnatural. I'm hoping you all have some suggestions for a setup that will lower the line of sight a bit.
I'm not opposed to returning it all and starting over but I'm hoping for some guidance on where to go next. I bounced back and forth between the TRS 50 and the TrueGlo. Does the Bushnell sit any lower?
I've decided I'm going to drill and tap which may help a bit. (I wasn't impressed with the lack of ruggedness of the Weaver either)
I'd like to go with a Reflex over a Red Dot but I can't justify a Vortex Venom or Fast Fire 3 right now. Are there any reflex sights around the $50 mark that are worth looking into?
I apologize for the length and amount of questions but I appreciate any assistance you experts can provide.
