Scratch Box Soundboards, curved or straight?
« on: December 19, 2018, 08:52:03 PM »
Scratch Box soundboard, curved or straight? Which is best? Which do you prefer? Why? Working on a few scratch boxes and want some advice from those that know. Thanks, Larry

In my opinion curved soundboard is better. I think it plays easier than a straight soundboard.

I'm not a call maker but i second what Jeff said. I have 1 straight soundboard scratch box and it is the hardest to play and doesn't sound as good as the curved board ones that i have.

To be honest I have never even seen a straight one before. I really find most curved easy to play.

Henry Davis style is straight.  Straight works fine as long as the striker is rounded.

I hunt and use both the straight or curved sound boards with no issues. My strikers are either a piece of roofing slate I cut myself or ebony with no curve in the wood. Can't run the rounded strikers well.
