Ticks need to be attached to your body for at least 24 hours in order to reach the bloodstream. I realize this amounts to "Captain Obvious" advice, but simply taking a shower and inspecting yourself well following the hunt will go a long way in preventing tick borne diseases.

I honestly didn't know that. I assumed they could cause trouble much sooner.

I agree w the tractor supply stuff. I run my dogs all year long multiple days a week. They've never had a tick on em but I spray em down w the tractor supply stuff. I also spray my chaps down w it. In tractor supply by me it's in the horse section. There's varying mixes depending on what your use is.
