Tn fall gobbler opening day

Been watching a small group of toms for several weeks. Has 5 mature longbeards and 12 of last years jakes. Was a good crisp morning and as the morning started to waken I made some very soft calls on my wingbone and a few light yelps on a ceramic pot call. A few of the birds began to gobble and 3 pitched down about 60 yards away. One strutted and the others start circling and purring loudly. A bird to my right gobbles and pitches about 30 yards from me and was shot as he stepped towards the others
18 pound 3/4 spur 7" beard.

Thought gobblers were off limits
Maybe it was hens, good thing i didnt go hunting
Not much more exciting than fall gobbling!

Chris I was gobbler yelping at these birds. They have been roosting on this ridge for several months. I started off with a few coarse tree yelps and clucks. After they hit the ground I soft yelped on a ceramic pot. Was about 70 yards from them on the roost. Good luck
