I haven't had much experience with box calls. I was taught on a pot, and mouth calls, and that has basically been the extent of my calling expertise (expertise is definitely a stretch). I started learning a trumpet with a couple from Jeff Irb, and was decent enough to work a bird for a while with them, and will continue to work on it. But, as far as box calls are concerned, I only have previous experience with a Lynch Fool Proof. Sounded fine, but busted it this year in a tumble. I've wanted to get a decent custom box call for a while, anyway...

Enter Spring Creek Calls. A couple of days ago I noticed where Mike from Spring Creek Calls was quite generous in donating a box for an 11 year old boy to a guy on here. That sealed the deal for me. I later contacted him through Facebook, and he gave some solid advice. I decided to order a short box, and a scratch box from him, and he knocked $10 off the price! I even told him not to do so, but when I received the PayPal invoice from him, it was only for $60 bucks! (price on the box was $50, and scratch box was $20) I wanted to get a good box without breaking the bank, and now I have one on the way, along with a scratch box, for less than I expected to pay for a box alone. Mike definitely puts the customer first.

Any new hunters on the forums (or otherwise) asking which call to get, I direct them to look at Spring Creek...  It is nice to be able to call the call-maker and get his input on which call will work the best for your particular situation....

As a side note, I bet you start playing that scratch box more than some of your other calls...  It is fun to play, and the clucks & purrs on a good scratcher cannot be beat....

I have seen one call maker that isnt any help out of all the years I am a member here that just pushes to make a sale and looks for praise.
