Green Slate Question

Regular Slate vs Green Slate? I’ve never had a green slate. Is their any difference in sound? Or they both sound the same?
Give me your thoughts.

Green slate is higher pitched (think closer to glass sound than traditional slate) but it still handles like slate. I like it but I like grey slate also. They both have their roles. Do not buy green slate thinking it sounds like grey slate because it doesn't. But it is a very nice surface that many of us enjoy. I encourage you to acquire both.

I owned 3 nice green slates but they just weren’t for me. I doubt that I will buy another. Grey slate for me.

I have a green slate over copper  REALLY NICE
Copper tones it down some.
I have to wait until next season to see how it holds up to moisture.......

I like grey better but it’s not what I like better but what the birds like better. I carry both and birds responded to the green slate and nothing else at a particular time. I can say the same about the grey. The first green slate I tried was in a cherry pot. Did not really care for it as it was way too high pitch for me. I have another in cedar and that thing is great. I believe a softer wood for a pot mellows it down. Not in volume but in the high pitch. Bottom line , get and hunt both. You never know what ole boy will want to hear at any given time.

I prefer grey slate as well, green is definitely higher pitched and reminds me of ceramic in sound.

I'd agree with the softer wood mellowing out the pitch of the green slate.

I just got my first green slat and as the other have said it does sound different. I think the green slate (From my very limited experience) has more bit than the gray meaning that I don't seem to have to use as much pressure with it as I do all my other black slate calls with the same striker. Just my personal opinion but I am sure the others know far more than I do.
