My son and I heard a few on the roost this morning but after fly down we only had one that wanted to play. He gobbled good, off and on, all morning but never seemed to commit and come on in. We started with a ceramic pot call from Chad Hutcheson aka "Stumpy" and he would answer it every time. But would not come. This went on until 9am. And the last few gobbles sounded like he was moving away. I looked at my son and said "sometimes he just needs to hear something a little different". I pulled out a little cocobolo and ebony Jordan style yelper that Anthony Ellis made and hit him with a series of clucks and then cut and he hammered back. Handed it over to my son and he gave a short yelp and a few clucks (this is the only air call that he can really run and run well) and this bird came charging towards us. Told him to get his gun up get ready and few moments later he appeared. He gave one last gobble and before he could finish and pull his head back.... Boom. Congrats to my son! A great battle and a great lesson for my son. Thanks to Anthony Ellis for once again making a killer of a call. I'm afraid I've lost that little gem of a yelper to my son. On the way home, he was looking at the call and said "this is mine now". I think you earned it son.
