I'm having issues with tool marks on the bottom of my calls. I use carbide tools. How do I get a clean cut all the way across the bottom?

Good sanding. I actually like to take a hand rotary sander with the lathe off and sand the bottom of my calls. This is quick and ensures an even surface too.

What grit do you start with? I've been starting at 100.

I start with 50 grit and this seems to help,Mike

Are tool marks normal or am I doing something wrong?

What kind of calls are we talking about? Sharp tools and rigid setup are 2 things that are important for good clean turning.  Technique is important to of course.

Do you have a scraper?

Work on trying to get an even finish with your chisels, then use the sander. You can get smoother than that with your tools. A scraper does help since it's a flat edge and just slowly work it across. Also a carbide finisher can help to.

From pics looks like u might need more of steady hand ,,,, get tool rest  as close to work as possible,, for final clean up cut i like going from center to outer edge with cutter starting center of work .. make sure tool rest is clean same thing with tool shafts i always keep mine cleaned up with paper and wax
Not taking orders for calls at this time ,,,but my have some on hand  ,,,I Dont sell strikers
I do like copper pot calls,,,,Get them While u can

Should I use the square to finish?

Yeah use the square. Like mike said work from the middle out. Make sure your rest is set right. Feed the rougher in just enough to take off the top layer then evenly work it across to the outside. You should be fine.
