A spring on a long box is like training wheels on a bike . 

Trust me on this one.  Niles is originally from Southern Vermont (I only mention that as I see VT in your name and I grew up in Vermont) and made one heck of a turkey call.  His long boxes are the real deal -- and if Billy Bush makes one half as good as Niles, I bet he has a waiting list a mile long.  I need training wheels!!!!!

I was just pick'n.  My favorite long box has a spring, so I am all about the training wheels. Nice not having to worry about how the lid is canted and such when trying to work a bird.

Yeah - being able to use them one handed seems to be one of the major advantages.  I can't play a long box very well so I need all the help I can get.

And by one handed I mean propping them up with a stick or something while you play it one handed.  Keeping the call slightly off the ground and working it.  At least that's what they tell me anyway.

The slate runs the best close to the edge which is different than others. But you were right, they are top notch!

My slate runs great a bit more off the edge than where I can see your running yours. I'll have a walnut slate any day now. I have his cherry pot.
