A wingbone or trumpet?

Wingbone is easier to get a general turkey noise out of, because you'll start out trying too hard. The larger inner diameter works better for that. Once you get better and can operate with less air, a good hen trumpet will be easier to get accurate sounds from.

It depends on the wingbone....
It depends on the trumpet....
It depends on your personal preference.

For me it comes down to the mouthpiece as far as ease of play.  I prefer a trumpet.

About the same to me.

I like both, I started trying to learn with a wingbone and am still learning. One thing about a wingbone it would be non effected by weather where maybe a trumpet being made of wood might swell If it got wet. I am sure it depends on the finish and maybe some call makers can correct me if I'm wrong but is playing a trumpet in the rain something to worry about?

Trumpets play even better when wet.

While it probably wouldn't matter if they got wet, I did notice that most trumpets are unfinished on the inside which could lead to some swelling if they got soaked for a period of time. I will say that normal playing creates moisture in the barrel and that doesn't seem to bother them so most likely not a worry....I will play mine in the rain.

I found the trumpet a hair easier when starting, but now I seem to be able to run both the same. Like previously said, it probably depends on the individual.

I find trumpets easier, I think it is because trumpets have symmetrical bells where wingbones can have odd shaped bells/bones. I noticed it takes more air manipulation with a wingbone...for me that is.
