New Weatherby SA-08.
« on: March 08, 2018, 07:16:05 AM »
I just picked up my new 20 gauge Weatherby SA-08. Not enough time to set it up for this year; looking for some info on the TSS loads.

Anybody had a chance to shoot some through it and what choke is working best? Later this year I will
Start getting her ready for next season. Mine has the 26” barell, Appreciate any info. Having a starting
Point will save me some money.

Thanks, John

Is it the Winchoke system?

It has the Imc systems, work with a few.

Yes to the win-choke.

The IMC choke tube thread pattern is compatible with the following choke tube patterns: Browning Invector (not Plus), Mossberg Accu-Choke and Win-Choke. Suggested aftermarket choke tube manufacturers: Trulock, Carlson’s, Briley Manufacturing.

Add Sumtoy to that list of aftermarket.  You can PM them right here on this site I believe.

Ive been running my weatherby sa08 with Fed 7s and a sumtoy 562-5 since 2012. With federals on a cold clean barrel it is gonna shoot 140 to 150. When it warms up I get 170 patterns. With Tss 9 that set up puts up 300 in 10 numbers.

Puregold 570 in that gun likes Fed heavyweight and will put up 120 numbers

Thanks for the replies. I did not realize, until recently that hand loaders have been shooting these shells for a while. From what I and reading guys are liking the Sumtoy and the truglo SSX. Still new at this so asking a lot of questions and trying to do some research.

Couple of questions:

What is the pattern like at 15 yds?
Do these shells have good knock down/ penetration; for #9?

What sight set up do you hace on your SA-08?

Think 300 lead 4s in a 10 circle; that's your answer, based on 9 seasons shooting TSS 9s.

That is a head crusher for sure.
Season starts in 4 days, so I am not going to be able to make it happen this year.
The main reason for getting the gun was for snipe and doves, once i heard and saw
Some of the patterns, I realized it would make a great turkey gun. Just have to find some TSS
And figure out the best sight for it. Would love to run a red dot, not sure if that will work.?

I bought a Mossberg SA-20, which is bascially the same gun, for my wife. I had it drilled & tapped and put a Vortex Venom it. I had to put a comb riser on it for her. You pretty much need to do that with most any gun you put a rail and sight on. I used just a short, 2 hole rail.

This was out of a 26” SA-08 with a .555 IC. 2 3/4” 1 5/8 oz pressure test averaged 1285 fps. This round went 1270 fps.

Thanks for the feedback. I purchased an choke and have some tss on the way; also purchased a Beard Buster Dead Ringer sight. Not sure how my eyes will do with it, but I am looking forward to getting it set up.
