20ga. 870 Magnum Patterns
« on: January 12, 2018, 12:31:16 PM »
It seems like most people are shooting the HW Fed #7’s. They are definitely throwing awesome patterns for you all! Does any one on here shoot the nitro 4x5x7? My buddy is saling me all of his hevishot for dirt cheap. I have a sumtoy .562 on the way. Eager to pattern my little 20ga. It was the first gun I ever purchased when I was a little boy.

Thank you

My son and I killed quite a few with the 4x5x7 Nitros, the Mega-weight version of that load (believe it was 4x5x6MWx 7-HS and then 5x6MWx7-HS) and the straight 7-HS in 20 ga Compact 1187s using a Hastings .562 and a Hastings .566.  I still have some that we hunt with and if I could get them cheap I would not have any issues hunting with them - if I can find some of the pattern pictures I will post them.

I only got 108 pellets at 40yrds. It was pretty sparse in my opinion. I bought some tss. Haven’t patterned it yet

The Winchester longbeard XR in #6 should give more than that with the Sumtoy 562. Are you drawing the 10" circle after you shoot and over the densest part of the pattern?

Yea i shot then drew a circle around the best. The pattern was pathetic. I’m assuming just the wrong choke for that load. I bought some tss to try as well. 8x9. Haven’t shot them yet but I now have a .555 Ic .562-5 and 562-3 Sumtoy’s.

Just waiting to take my gun to get it tapped and drilled. Then I’ll pattern it again

The 562-5 is nasty with the Longbeard 6s and especially the now phased out Fed HW 7s.

You’ll throw all that other stuff away when you shoot that tss through the Indian Creek.

That's right throw all that other stuff that wont kill a turkey anymore like it did in the past in a brown paper bag and i'll take it to the dump for you, I don't want you wasting your time going to the dump when you could be patterning those $35.00 a box new shells.  :TooFunny:

.555 IC Did 292 in the 10” 144 in the 20”
.562.3 Sumtoy 264 and 192
.562.5 Sumtoy 237 and 172

I felt like the .555 was slightly blown. It had some large holes in the 10 and 20”
