#6 vs. #7 Fed HW 20 ga.
« on: January 11, 2018, 10:08:47 PM »
Anyone have any comparisons between Federal heavyweight #6’s vs. #7’s out of a benelli m2 20 gauge? Also choke tube recommendations.

Thanks

Don’t waste time with the 6s as they are overkill and you loose pellet count. Stick with 7s. As far as a choke for that combo I am not familiar but search the 20ga forum. Best of luck!

I tried the 6's out of an 1187 with a Sumtoy 562-5 choke and couldn't a decent pattern much past 30yds. The pattern was very even, but it was pretty open/sparce. At 30 and under the pattern was pretty good. At that range I can get a better/denser pattern with lead 6's.

The 6s have never did good.   The number of shot in the shell kills it.  If you can find 7s roll with them.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

My M2 shot the Heavyweights really well with a IC .555, like everybody else said, I would shoot the 7's. You better buy some up and stockpile them because Federal is discontinuing them when they come out with their TSS loads.

Thanks for the info everyone. If anyone is looking to get more federal hw 7’s, Rogers Sporting Goods have them for $17.99 a box if you buy 10(plus free shipping).

I got a gun and choke that puts up 120 numbers at 40 with fed heavyweight 6s. If thats all you can find its a sledge hammer.

Me too!  120's-130's with the 6's.  Would NOT to be the turkey on the business end of that stuff!   Rem 870, Carlson's. 570 non-ported.

28 inch weatherby sa08 with 570 tempest. My 562-5 Sum toy puts up 115 and 117 the two times I shot 6s to pattern Just got a 570 from William today to try.

I steel tape 40 yards as well.

Try a Carlson non-ported .575. Great choke for the money and very consistent. Shoots heavy 13 6s and heavyweight 7s very well. High 120s to low 130s in my guns. Not awe inspiring picture posting numbers but it will repeat those numbers consistently in my guns. Will probably do pretty good with heavyweight 6s.
