Sweetbriar Custom Calls by Travis Wyatt
« on: October 04, 2018, 05:59:32 PM »
Had some fun running calls this summer from Travis (twyatt here). I never like to declare a “best call” amongst various makers, because I believe that is so subjective. I will say some of his calls are as good AS ANY - including the “waiting list” type.

Travis is meticulous when it comes to sound quality and attention to detail. It’s great to have another call maker to add to the list of “Who makes the best _____ call”.

I’ll admit - I really like his Cherry Slate and Cherry Aluminum. (I like those surfaces...)

(for reference - all calls were played with a Lyman hickory striker)

I saved subscribed to his channel and will check them out later. I know from talking to him that he is found of those surfaces as well and pot combinations as well.

All sound great but the Cedar gray slate really sounded sweet. Was the cherry aluminum you mentioned green aluminum in your video or a different aluminum? I think green aluminum is a better surface than black anodized in my opinion. Thanks for the sound clips you make some of the best ones!!

Chris O - the aluminum is /was a green aluminum in a cherry pot. That one didn’t make the return trip to Virginia. Neither did the slate. It’s really hard to judge a call by an iPhone video - but these calls are really good.

I’d be happy (will be) to hunt them with any or all of my favorites. Mike Yingling, Brad Roberts, David Halloran, Jimmy Shaffer, Mark Cunningham, Paul Hicks, Clint Corder, Platz, Chad, etc.

The cherry slate and cedar slate were my favorites. Very good sounding calls for sure.

I have ran a good number of Travis's calls and everyone one of them were really good. I highly recommend his call to anyone and a fine gentleman to deal with as well.  Put one in your vest. You will not be disappointed
