"FIRE IN THE HOLE"
« on: July 12, 2017, 04:17:34 PM »
Knocking down my list slowly.  A few months ago my good buddy Chris (Chobrown on here) sent me a big ole box of mixed woods and especially some of this wormy fire box elder.  To return the favor I made this for him out of that wood.  I put a turkey in there too.

I hope you like it Chris.  These guys don't realize your
addiction is so bad that you have pot calls on your ceiling light fixtures in the new house! :TooFunny:

I appreciate it guys!  David the soundboard is the same acoustical basswood that I use on the hooch boxes.  It matched the elder better and I like the sound.  The basswood is a bit softer than butternut on the janka hardness scale.  410/490

That's the first time I've seen Basswood used in a turkey call.

Steve it's not very commonly recognized  because everyone likes fancy hardwoods and common denominators.
This is not my picture but from an old post on another forum.  Neil made a series of them with walnut lids.

Dad has a lot of Basswood that he cut carving blanks from.  Guess I better hang on to it.
