I bought a nice Stevens 12 gauge single-shot turkey gun yesterday. Wanted one for a long time. The price was right- 160 bucks and under 6 pounds. After rereading my Turkey And Turkey Hunting mag of March 2005-- an Article by Jim Spencer---The Veterans--Still Enjoying The Challenge. Great article about Tom Cawthon-(turkey Tom) -age 80 whose standby turkey gun was a century old Hopkins and Allen 12 gauge single-shot he bought more then 30 years ago at that time for 5 bucks!  There is no telling how many turkeys he took with it.  Nice pic of him with his single-shot shotgun and a box caller. Can't wait to try my single -shot this Fall.

Single shots work. Can't remember the last time I had to shoot twice at the same bird. But them Turkeys can be real dangous when cornered soa couple extra shells don't hurt.

Always heard good things about the Stevens but never shot one to my knowledge.

I have an old Winchester 37A 20 gauge and it has made a few trips into the turkey woods with me.
Sure brings the "simplicity " back in the hunt .

H&R single, original factory camo. SumToy added the fiber optic rifle sights couple years ago. JH .660 sitting on the end, paired with Hevi 3" #7.

I hunted with a Stevens single shot with a fixed modified choke for 10 years. I never missed a bird with it and tagged out with in each year too.  My grandfather taught me to make the first shot count.  He also said if you had him coming in, don't do anything to make him to go the other way.  That single shot caused me to either let him get in close, or let him pass if I didn't have a good shot.  Hunting with a single shot definitely taught me to become a better hunter.

Love hunting with my CVA 20 gauge single.  It's so easy to carry and maneuver in a tight hiding spot.

Grew up using a singe shot. I think they are perfectly functional turkey guns. Typically if a second quick shot is needed it is just noise anyways.

I broke about 7 clay pigeons with the Stevens yesterday. Shoots well. It has a modified choke I can leave in for close turkey hunts or use one of my comp-n-chokes which I found fits like a glove. Sometimes modified is better for the Fall. Closer shots.
