I've always preferred Chevy over Ford and have had good luck with them over Ford. The 2 Fords my wife and I have had through the years ( one car and one truck)were in the shop alot. Maybe we just had a couple lemons, but that was 2 to many for me especially when I never have cared for them much anyway...

I have had better luck with chevy compared to fords, but I have never owned a brand new vehicle .I always go for slightly used.I drove a 95 Dakota for 14 yrs 220,000 miles the motor was still very strong when I sold it . I hear of nightmare stories about Ford spark plugs the most. They are all rust buckets after a few Midwest winters except maybe the new Fords. I have heard nothing but good about Toyota. I like the looks of the Tacoma more than the Tundra though. I would go with what you can get serviced close to home I have to drive 55 miles to get my Nissan Titan serviced so I am getting kind of sick of that and I think Toyota is a better truck. Sorry just rambling on I guess. I would go Toyota if you can get them serviced close to home and they hold their value very well.

Whichever you choose, I'd advise against getting anything in its first model year of a major redesign...cosmetically, mechanically, or both.

New body style?  Nope.
New engine or transmission?  Nope.

That's a good point and I have heard that many times from mechanics .
And have seen the nightmare of a friend's  f-150
2004 ford. He has spent  thousands keeping that thing going.

Many lost crankshafts when Chevy started with AFM. Many lost cylinders when Ford started the eccobost.

I'll tell you the story of the last Chevy I ever owned. Every spot weld in both wheel wells broke. The spray in bedliner held it together of awhile but without the tailgate latched the sides of the bed were free floating. The body shop I took it to told me to take it to Chevy as it was a low mileage truck and shouldn't have happened. Chevy service manager looked at it and sent me to their body shop. That dude threw a fit about how I was gonna pay to fix it and now expected him him to do it for free. It was embarrassing and pissed me off. The day I got it back from the body shop I traded it in on a Tundra.

I owned an 07 Ford Expedition EL with 5.4 L V8.  I bought it used and wished I hadnt within a month.  I may own another Ford but it wont be the hunk of crap 5.4.  I wish i could have dropped it through the dealers roof.

Ive been looking at used crew cab trucks and like the looks of the GMs better, but there seems to be a lot of folks that have had trouble with the 5.3 burning oil.  You can find a lot of similar reports on the Ford Ecoboost.   I know that may be a small percentage, but I stepped right into Ford's 5.4 problems and it was supposed to be a small percentage also.

My 2013 silverado 5.3L has used oil since it was new.  It consumes a quart ~ every 2-3000 miles which is more than I think a newer well taken care of engine should.
