Keep in mind this choke was designed for Longbeards for the tightest long range patterns. Haven't shot them yet, but from everything I read they are pretty tight with most other chokes to begin with. So now factor in the close range shooting might be way too tight, where another choke might give you a better happy-medium between long and short ranges?

Is there a choke that gives good hunting patterns from 10 to 40 yards with the LB's? I've been avoiding them because I don't like a pattern too tight at close ranges...

I doubt it, would be nice if one existed. At 10 yards they are going to be tight regardless. Just something one has to expierment with for the best long and short range combination. Guess it comes down to a compromise, give up a little tightness at 40, where 10 will not be that bad depending on the choke?

650 with 6's.   Open up to 660 to 665 with 4's or 5's. Now if 3 inch gun you can fudge little.  Now we have few guys that are running 4's out the 650.  I have not tried it but plan on it.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

I am shooting a 680 flush carlsons with 3'' #6s and got 180s in the 10 at 40yds this was on a 30 degree morning going to shoot more when it warms up should get a little better.

I'm shooting 3" #6 Longbeards in a 21" 870 with a .665 Remington SF choke and averaged 235 in the 10 ring at 40yds.  Shot the same 6's (same gun) with a Preston Pittman ported choke .672 and averaged 220.

I've patterned 3in size 4 with just a modified choke and have had good pellets in the kill zone along with a pattern that isn't so tight. Anyone else experience this?

I have not tried a modified but I was really suprised at how good the Carlsons 680 flush tube did with the 6s.

What kind of numbers are you getting with the modified choke.
