While cleaning my KY bird, I was very surprised/shocked at the lack of penetration of the XR 6s. My gun patterns a bit low and I peppered his breast pretty good, but a majority of the shot in the breast barely broke the skin. I really have lost confidence in these loads!

Sorry to post in here but I wanted to share my experience as well
I've never used 6's until the Longbeards.
I've killed 7 of my last 8 with them without concern .
When I killed the first one last week he stood up as I shot. They punched him down and he didn't twitch but I hit low just above the beard. When I cleaned him it looked exactly like your picture. Just penetrated underneath the hide. A few made it deeper but not many.
I shot the 5's and 4's this week and they hit the same so I used the 5's Friday on one. They wrecked his head. I'm hoping to try the 4's on one to.
The 6's have killed every Tom I've shot but I was a bit concerned at the lack of penetration they displayed.
I love the pattern they throw but I'll probably stay with bigger shot for now just incase I shot low again.

Normal looking from here. That is exactly what is expected to happen. Lead shot has never penetrated any better then that. That's why we shoot them in the head. I would not be dissappointed in your finings. That said I never liked 6's anyway. Always used 4's but now with the LB'S I will also use 5's.

Never knock anyone's decision in what they shoot. I have killed birds with lead but finally decided to try Hevi. It really only took that first bird I killed with it to let me know that I was not going back to lead.

Lead kills fine, but I just feel like the shot shell is the most important component of turkey hunting, it is what it all comes down in the moment of truth. A good shell can make up for many chokes and guns.

HTL is expensive but it is not like I am shooting 25 a hunt like for dove or duck. A box a year would now fit my hunting unless I was going out of state then maybe two boxes.

That 835 and Hevi 7's would be tough them.

I shot longbeards once at the range and that was all. Been shooting mag blends for a while now and don't ever think I will change. They flat out hammer birds.

The LBs in my vest have been replaced with mag blends...
