The Orphan (soundfile added)
« on: September 10, 2016, 03:01:39 PM »
Soundfile added down the page. This began as a prototype but I will probably never make another one in this design.  I call her the orphan because she will probably never have a home.  It is "bi polar", two sided and was a collosal pain to make and tune for some reason.   :z-dizzy:.  It is figured walnut and mineral poplar with a 100 year old cherry striker.  I will add a soundfile when the finish completely sets.  She's a looker and a raspy gal.  Thanks for looking.

Looks good man. Might try another one to be sure though. I'm not a call maker but I hear walnut is a pain to tune. Maybe try another wood and see if it works out any easier.

Thanks Kris and you are right a walnut box with walnut lid is difficult to pull off however in this case I think the figuring makes the wood a little more dense and harder to soften the tone.  The design was for ergonomics and I am happier with some of my other ones.  Who knows for now but I'm glad it's done.  Maybe I'll record it today.

Here's a soundfile I hastily made.  There's a lot of traffic in the background.  Just pretend it's windy.   :OGani:
