Where does one find a piece of slate to use as a striker?

I bought a few pieces of the smaller round slate on ebay that would go in a 3-inch pot to use as scratch box strikers. I also buy pen blanks at a wood store and make strikers for my scratch boxes. I have found that hard woods such as ebony, bocote, snakewood, cocobolo, yheart, etc. make excellent strikers for scratchers.

be carefull with slate, it will actually wear into the lip of the scratch box, i buy dowel rods and cut them in half and make different strikers, cherry works on anything and runs real smooth, jatoba and purpleheart are good as are several of the ones hunter22 mentioned.  the size and thickness of the striker affect the sound as well. i get a 3/4'' wide dowel and cut it in half about 3'' long

I found some roofing slate that's a 1/4" thick and cut it on my band saw. Works like a dream but is a pain in the butt to cut. The hard woods that Rickey mentioned work very well too.

Don't tell me you have the scratcher sickness?
I like to run curved sound board stcratchers on pot calls. Try it on a hot hen!
