The IL. shotgun opener was Sat. so I wanted to hunt in a spot that I haven't been in yet this year. I've done well there in the past so it was a starting point. With the duck opener on the same day I like to be close to the river to hear the birds gobble when the shooting starts. I wasn't disappointed. I was set close to a flock of jakes. After flydown and the normal fighting for pecking order rank, I heard a jake yelp and what I assume was the looser for the day, looking for me. He must have wanted to see if he could move up a notch but I took him out,at 12 yrds., after he got tired of whipping my decoy.
