Hello,

This year will be my first year to really try and get a better pattern. Let me know what you all think.

Gun: Remington 870 Express (not magnum)
Choke: Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike

Shell number 1 was Hevi 13 #7 at 40 yards. Slight wind (6-8 mph). Temp was in the low 60s.

Shell number 2 was Longbeard #5 same distance and environment as the Hevi 13

I think you better sharpen your knife and get the grease hot. Turkey killer there.

I like the ring on the outside of the 10" with the 7s. That's awesome!

Thanks for the replies! I wasn't 100% sure about the Longbeard pattern. I mean it looked like I couldn't get a whole lot more shot into the 10" circle at 40 yards. The chart I have says that the nominal pellet count in a 3" number 5 shell is 340. That would give me 54% in the 10. But, looking at the paper there seems to be around 60 pellets that are not in the 10.  Of course I cannot account for every pellet but just looking at it you would think that was a lot more than 54% of the shot is in that circle. Also, I have no idea how accurate the chart I have is as far as pellet count.

I really like the pattern on the Hevi #7 also. Not just because theres more of it but because it looks nice and well distributed for the most part.

They both look great, but I would not want to shoot that LB pattern without an optic.

Have not had a chance to shoot again. It's pretty much rained here ever since. Last night and today I was getting ready to gather every animal two by two. May have to break down and pay for an indoor range. I need to know my margin or error if any at closer ranges. I am almost afraid to see the LB #5s at close range.

Try the same set up except with MagBlend....i think u will be pleasantly surprised!!!!

found a post on another sight that stated they took the average of five 3" #5 Longbeard XR shells and came up with 305 pellets. In case anyone was wondering.
