Browning BPS w Hasting .690 ported choke
« on: March 17, 2015, 03:39:26 PM »
Just wanted to get some feedback form other hunters who use a 10ga.  I'm using a browning bps 10ga 26" barrel with a Hastings horizontal ported choke constricted at .690 with the old federal 2 1/4 oz #6.  At 40 yards it's devastating.  The farthest shot I've taken is 65 yards and leveling a gobbler.  I would never do this again.  Not because of confidence but I don;t want to cripple a bird.  What other choke/shell combinations are others using with good results?

Had an unported Hastings .695 that loved old Win. 2 1/4oz. #5's. Now running a Comp n choke XX Full, havent found a load that it doesnt like, 4's or 5's.

Good to hear!  I've looked at Jeb's, Patternmaster and Carlson's but not Comp-n-choke yet.  I still have to pattern my unported hastings that I got used last year.  Does anyone know why they apparently went out of business?

I used a Indian Creek on mine with old Remington Green #5 or #6 Heavy shot punched a hole at 25 yards. Both sizes shot about the same.

Back before I got the sp-10 I used an xx full comp n choke in my BPS and there wasn't a lead load it wouldn't shoot well.    It liked a 2 ounce load better than 2 1/4 though.  When I switched to nitro I went with a
.690 jelly head and it performed great.
