Take a kid hunting....
« on: March 10, 2011, 03:14:34 PM »
Dusty and I have been on a pretty good streak the past several years, but he's growing up so this weekend was our last early youth hunt together.

2007, a toad with 1-7/16" hooks:

2011:

Looks like I'm gona have to find another youngster to take the next few years.  My nephew is only 6, but he's growing fast, so it wont be too long.  I'm gona have to find someone to carry next year.  Sure is a blast watching kids roll one up.

If you have not tried it, give it a whirl.  It can be quite challenging, but very rewarding in the end.

Have a good one,

Congrats on the streak.  Hopefully you can keep it going.  I'm taking my wife's  11 year old nephew out for the PA youth season for the first time this year.  He seems really excited about it which is great because neither his parents or his grandparents hunt.  Hopefully I can get him on some birds and get him hooked.     :anim_25:

Good Luck!  If you get him on some birds and he feels the rush, you may end up with a hunting partner for life.

I am taking my son this year, and we are going until he kills one or the season is over, if he wants to go.  He is 6 as well and is shooting the 20 fairly well.  More shooting to come, so we'll see what his MER is.

Taking my daughter on her first turkey hunt for Virginia's youth day.  Still a couple of weeks away and she can hardly wait.

Reloader, Good luck to y'all this weekend. I will have my 15 year old step-son with me on Saturday and Sunday morning for the Alabama youth weekend. Taking the kids is great and watching them kill a bird is better than me killing one.

Good Luck!

I've got three of them to keep me busy.  I've posted plenty of photos of Isaac w/ his birds and a few of Olivia with me hunting last year.   She just passed her hunter safety a few weeks ago, so she'll hunt CO and maybe IL this year.  Boyd, my youngest, will get to go with me, but he won't have a tag with us skipping NE this year.  I'm about to hit a dryspell on my own turkeys with all three of them coming on board.  Its a good thing youth tags are inexpensive to free in some states.

Takin my boy again this year. Had one come in two years ago but couldn't get a shot. Came in behind us. Maybe this year will be the  year.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE YOUNGSTERS.

I'm gonna miss youth season this year with my son but I'm planning on making it up to him by taking him to Texas with me this year to roll him his first Rio. He's got a couple good easterns under his belt so far. Pretty sure he's ate up with it too. Got a couple other youngsters that I'm planning on taking a time or two as well. Best of luck to all of you guys bringing the youths out this season.
