Browning Silver 24" & 3.5" Fed HW 7s
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:57:39 PM »
Did some shooting today with the new batch of 3.5" HW 7s and my Browning Silver 24". 60 degrees 5-7 mph breeze.   I tested the Pure Gold Tempest 660, Trulock Fed HWT, and the Ballistic Specialties 655.

All of the patterns averaged around 140 in the 10 @ 40 yards.  The PG and TL were pretty much even. The Ballistic Specialties was the clear winner with the most consistent patterns and one really good one of 189. I also shot my usual set up, PG 675 and Nitro H510C.  It was lower than normal at 146. I usually average 180. It appeared to have alot more 5s in this shell for some reason.

I'm sure with better temps, no wind, and a lead sled, all of the patterns would be better.

These Federals are just too inconsistent for me. If the choke does its job and doesnt allow the FCW to work, you get a sweet pattern. But I only got 1 out of 5 shots to actually do so. I'm done with them.

I really believe a .670 choke will give you a better pattern with that load.
