HOMEMADE PERMETHRIN TICK SPRAY NEED HELP
« on: March 06, 2011, 11:41:43 PM »
How do you make homemade Permethrine tick spray?  Wanting to spray blinds and gear and tired of paying $9 a bottle.  Can you use the concentrate and make your own?

If so what is the ratio?

1oz 10% Permethrin
15oz Water

That's the ratio I use.  Will give you 16oz of anti-tick goodness.   :you_rock:

This is almost dead on compared to the store brand.  Most store brands are .5% permethrin...Akish79's formula is .625%.  Just saw a 32 oz. bottle of 10% permethrin on Amazon.com for 21.95.  I will be making my own spray from now on....Thanks for starting this thread.  I am sure a lot of people with save a lot of money this year!!!!!

You can soak your outerwear in this as well and let it dry to have the same affect as the commercial clothing treatments.

I got mine from Rural King.  (www.ruralking.com)  I have a store near me and they had 8oz for $6.99 and 16oz for $19.99.

Yes, works well on crawlers like chiggers and ticks.  Not real effective against fliers like mosquitoes.  Just remember, do not let it contact the skin in wet form.  Never apply directly to skin.  Treat clothing and allow to throughly dry.  Will last at least 2 weeks even if you wash the clothing.  This stuff is technically a nerve agent.  use it stictly as instructed on the clothes treatment version and do not mix it any stronger.  For some strange reason the stuff is highly toxic to cats so do not let your wife's lap warmer come in contact with it or you will be in the dog house.

I may be new to this but I need a ratio of water to 10% to make a .5%

Please show your formula if you have one!

The concentrate is cheap...but I have done lots of reading and calling and it is not labeled to do this.....

Andy's formula is for 10% permethrin and works out to a little over .5%.  It works out to .625%.  If you want .5%, mix 1oz of 10% permethrin with 20 oz of water an you will have .5% permethrin.

.1/20 = .005  this is the formula.

Great information, never even thought of this, and I use the heck of the Repel Permanone every year, this will defn save some money, thanks!

FYI: Took this formula off another site:

for 0.50% solution - 5 1/2 ounces of Permethrin to 1 Gallon of Water.

later,

CS

Before you run out and buy the first 10% permethrin you find, realize that many agricultural permethrin concentrates are oil based and not water based like Permanone.  Need to look around and find a water based solution for use on clothing.

Great heads-up on that.
