I know we have all heard that the Star Dot chock tube is the Holy Grail for the mossberg 835...  My questions is there a "holy grail" type choke tube for the Remington 870?  Thanks for any input

I don't know if its the Holy Grail, but I had great luck with a 650 Gobblin Thunder for many yrs with my 870.

From what I see here its a Jellyhead .660.

Ive read a lot on here also about the Jelly Head .660
I like to try one new choke each year, thats why im asking the question.
I was currently thinking about JH .660 but if several people posted about something different it would certainly be worth listening too.

Well the Jelly Head .665 and .660 wasn't very good in my 28" polished 870 3" barrel.  A little over 200 in a 10" with Hevi-13 2oz #7's.

The best choke I have found shooting Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7's in 60 degree temp or above has been the MAD Super Max .675 made by Indian Creek.

In years past i have been using 28" barrel 3" hevi-13  3-2-7.  but this year i sold that 870 to buy a 870 super mag with 26" barrel.   I havent even shot it yet, just got it this week.  it will shoot 3.5" shells and intend to shoot hevi-13  3.5-2.25-7

Take a look at Pure Gold chokes, they shoot that load very well, 3.5 2.25 of 7s.  Clean the heck out of the barrell before you pattern, it makes a difference.

im thinking really hard about polishing the barrel before i shoot it the first time.  just nervous i guess, i never done it before and dont know if you can screw up a new gun somehow or not by doing it

You can do IT, there are excellant directions on the forum, How to polish a barrel. Read it thru and polish away. It will help. Look at it before and after, and watch it shine!!!

For me after spending way to much money on 8 different shotguns, 25 different chokes a couple of house payments on ammo it came out to be  the
Rhino 660 shooting either n
Nitro 2x4x6, 4x5x7 or if i'm out of nitro heavy 13.

3" 870 Shell Shucker

Lots of people shoot Remingtons.  When people post pics of great Hevi13 patterns, the usual performers are the Indian Creek .665, Pure Gold .670, Jelly Head .660 or sometimes .665, Gobblin' Thunder .655, Sumtoy .650, Remington Ventilator .655, TruGlo SSX .643, etc.

Each gun is different.

Most insightful and collectively accurate post yet.

For my 870 it was the Sumtoy .650.

Anyone shot Hevi 13 3.5/2.25/ 6's out of a Rem Super mag with the Rem Extra Full choke .687?

I have 6 boxes of the Hevi 3.5 6's. Not my favorite shell but gonna shoot them none the less.

Unfortunately, I do not have an 870. I will be searching for one of the older ones. However, out of all the tubes I tried, and in various guns, the Rob Roberts 660 non ported tube performs the best. I run it in my Benelli SBE, and my Browning cynergy ultimate turkey. It handles the Federal Heavyweight with Flight control wads, Heavy Shot Mag blend 4,5,7, and all the Winchester Longbeards. Most likely would do well in 870's due to its consistency in a few different guns. Thanks, great thread....

Yes sir. It's like that choke was designed for an 870.
