I just found this forum. I have a TK2000 and a Encore ML turkey gun. I haven't got a pattern out of the Knight yet that I am satisfied with. The Encore with 1 5/8 oz of #6 magnum shot and 70grs of T7 is awsome. I am planning on taking it out opening morning. I have been trying the 2.5oz loads in the TK2000 and it just kicks too much for the patterns. I am fixin to try the 1 5/8 oz with 70grs of T7 in the Knight to see if things improve. reflex264

I don't know if they still make them but it is awsome. Here it is with my 835

I bought a TK2000 just prior to last season.  I used the recommended load of 2 1/2oz #6 pushed by 100 grains of real black powder.  Yes it is a kicker but patterned very well.  If you look through the archives in that "other" forum you will find several loads for the TK2000.  Many will be for hevi shot, buffered loads, several wad combos, etc.  Good luck.

BTW - I looked hard for an Encore mzl shotgun barrel last year.  It appears it is no longer made.

They never advertised them like they should have. It is a real beast. Makes for a super light gun that throws one of the better patterns I have ever seen. reflex264

I have encore muzzleloader and love it. Have shot quite a few Gobblers with it so far. I use 75 Gr of ttt 7 with felt wad, shotcup full of 5"s and another felt wad. Works well although it kick's like a mule, and I do have to take choke tube out to load.

Just Lead No 5's haven't had any problems. I like them between 25 and 35 yards. Haven't had one get away yet at that distance.

25 - 35 yards is a normal shot for me.  I'm glad to see that in this muzzleloader section it hasn't turned into a "long range bragging contest".  A solid, even, 35 yard pattern should be good enough for any mzl hunter.

40 yards is a pretty good limit with the MLs. I wouldn't hesitate to take a 50 yards shot with the Encore but would feel much better on a 35-40 yard shot. reflexl

I agree 100% I try to keep all my shots inside 40 yards. That's the sport calling them in close. It should'nt really matter whether your using a ML or the newest most modern shotgun.

I've been through a long range of muzzleloading shotguns for spring gobbler hunting. I started out with a T/C Black Mountain Magum. 12ga. sidelock that had a screw in choke. That gun wasn't made very long and I never did get a real good pattern with it, even after trying quiet a few real good screw in Turkey Chokes and a lot of different loads.

In my search for a decent Spring Gobbler muzzleloader that was the style I really wanted I ended up building my own.

My first flintlock spring gobbler with my first build. 20ga. with 36" open cylinder barrel. I killed quiet a few gobblers with this gun, but only hunt public land and 28yds was really about the max distance with the open cylinder so decided to build one with a Colerain Turkey Choke barrel.


I finally got it built after moving etc., and have only fired it one time at a gobbler. They're a lot scarcer around here Illinois than in Florida where I was hunting. Anyway, it's good to 45yds., or so but I won't shoot one farther than 30 to about 35 max. and will try my best to get them 25yds.

It's a 20ga. and light as a feather with a 34" barrel that has a choke from .20ga. to .28ga right at the end of barrel.
