In your opinion, what is your strength in the woods?
« on: March 22, 2023, 11:51:17 AM »
We all come to hunting turkeys from different starting points in our lives. There are some who are superior callers, some who rely on advanced skills of woodsmanship, some have the innate ability to finagle permission to hunt on random landowner's properties and some are just flat out sneaky and have the ability to crawl undetected under a snake.

What are your personal strengths that help put gobblers on the ground each year?

Persistence. Stay out there as much as possible. Before work. After work. Everyday if needed.

Great point. Cain't kill one from the couch.

I think my passion for our lifelong pursuit is my strength. I think it makes all of the elements it takes to be successful better if you love what you are doing. Just my  :z-twocents: Z

I heard that. Like the man said, I'd rather be lucky than good.

I rely primarily on woodsmanship and understanding the nature of the birds to help my success. Careful calling tends to finalize the deal for me.

I'd say a little bit of everything really. I run and gun mostly so woodsmanship definitely matters. I'm not a championship caller by any means, but I'm proficient on the calls I carry to the field and can make any calling sequence on demand. Also knowing when to stop calling and let him come looking as equally as important too.

Knowing when I am beat that particular day and almost always having an exit strategy that will not spook the bird(s) I am hunting.

I use that one a lot.

Not real sure if I have any strengths, honestly. I just hope to hear a bird, then I'll feel them out and go from there. I let them move the first chess piece more times than not. I just love the game, but the ending is a catch 22.
