If you come across a.550 truglo ssx, pick it up, this choke gets really good reviews from these guns and It does well in my guns. I have not heard much good about the other truglo chokes.

This truglo .550 patterned great in my bantam with TSS 9 & #8, and with the older Federal HVWT #7's,
it did not have good patterns with TSS #7 or Fed HVWT #6

the Mossberg xxfull choke had good patterns with  #7tss and the #6 fed HVWT.

Well I got Indian Creek .555, which I thought would be the cure as it has performed in 5 or 6 other 20's with my handload but that was not the case. I fired one of my proven handloads and it might have made 200 in the 10" at 40. I am use to seeing 300 plus with other short barreled guns and the IC .555.

Any advice? Might try a more open choke as all I have tried that was a Carlson .555, Headbanger .565 and a indian Creek .555

Interesting, seems like the Mossy 500 youth barrel likes the .555 generally, but that is the key, generally. My core was tighter with the .555 than the .562, and the IC .562 and Sumtoy .562 were near identical. All great patterns, but the .555 was just hotter which I prefer running a red dot.

I'd run a Sumtoy .562 next if that were my gun, or at least be the plan when I call William at Sumtoy to order it. Ask him about your experience, he may have an alternative other than .562 given the countless barrels he's worked on over the years.

Gonna give it one more try this weekend and see. The IC .555 has worked great in many other short barreled guns but this is the first Mossberg I have tried one in.

for a mossberg ive found either back the load diwn to 13/8 if you wanna stick with 555 or bump up to 565-570 with 15/8

Was offered that same advice by a friend of mine who has a good bit more experience loading than me so I am gonna try that exact advice. The 1 3?8oz load should help with an over choked situation.

Thanks

Tried several other loads yesterday and finally broke the 300 mark at 40 with a tweak to one of my handloads and using the Indian Creek .555. Pattern looked really even with very few pellets outside the 20" so I am finally happy with results and I loaded up 10 to hunt and check zero for the next season or two depending on how much this gun makes it in the rotation.

I feel like and patterns showed that I was over-choked. With loads that have performed great in all my other 20's and several other 20's I load ammo for I knew what I should be getting and my patterns were scattering shot all over the 30 X 30 inch backing paper I was using. I tried a Carlson .555, Headbanger .565, Indian Creek .555 and a Avian X Crusher .565 I believe is what constriction it is, and all showed signs of being over-choked. That was all the chokes I had access to but have a HS Strut Undertaker on order as I have seen it perform in several 20's with my handload and they are cheap. I decided that I would try the Indian Creek again yesterday with advice from others on reducing shot amount but patterns were bad. Over the last few years loading ammo for various guns I have ran into a couple that acted similar to how this particular youth gun was acting so I decided to try a little tweak to my handload to see what would happen and found instant success. The OS card under wad on top of powder has worked in 410, 16 and now this Bantam. Unsure why this works but I have confirmed it over and over with several finicky guns and it does.

Now I did not go back and try any other choke than the Indian Creek so the others might perform also but I am satisfied with patterns so I am done with this gun and ready to hunt. I may throw some of my handloads without the OS card under wad through the Undertaker when it gets here just to confirm what I believe was and over-choked situation and see how it does.
