Tss sight in distance?
« on: February 07, 2023, 09:31:28 PM »
Sighting in my new 20 gauge red dot this weekend.

I plan on shooting dove loads first at 20 to get it close.

Then what should be my max pattern distance? 40 yards ?

I’ll shoot dove at 40 yards and get it good then shoot the tss at it to double check?

Thanks

20 can work, but I would recommend starting closer than 20 yds with birdshot to dial it in on a much smaller “hole”. 5 yards is even easier and will get you close at 40 with the real stuff.  The main thing is to have fun and share the details and results!

Also what inch circle is everyone using and counting the holes?

Is the a 10 or 12 inch circle?

Typically use 10 & 20” counts at 40 yds for common reference and comparison.

I just draw around a paper plate.  I'm guessing they are 10 1/4"??

I shoot at 5 yards with a red dot or a scope.  So much easier to make POA/POI adjustments. Then I back up to 35 or 40 yards. Initial load is field loads and final is TSS/Nitro/Foxtrot or Apex.  With bead only, I shoot at 16 yards to check POA/POI. This pattern regimen has always worked for me.
I also polish my barrels, even chrome lined. I know that some say don't polish a chrome line barrel but I have done it with much success. Patterns don't lie. Brownell's even sells a chrome line barrel polisher. Works for me.  I really like the flex hone kit as far as polishing goes.  It has not been my experience that "a dirty barrel shoots just as good". Even though there days I rarely count the "10". I just want great patterns.

Have a good one and May God bless, Bo
