Your thoughts on this gun?
« on: September 08, 2022, 02:13:29 PM »
TriStar Viper G2 Turkey Semi-Auto Shotgun with Pistol Grip TrueTimber Strata 20 gauge
A friend of mine is looking at getting this scattergun for turkey hunting. I don't know much about them. Do any of you have any experience with this gun? Good or bad, I'd appreciate your thoughts so I could pass them on to my friend. Thanks!!

Following. I'm looking at the same gun. I wanted a Weatherby SA 459 but they quit making them and this one looks like the next best thing to me. I just wish it had a 22 inch barrel instead of a 24 and it would be perfect.

I would tell your friend to also look at the Franchi Affinity Turkey model with the pistol grip steady grip stock and it's inertia driven ... as another possibility

You are correct. I was just sharing a good deal on a great turkey gun.

Nothing at all wrong with a Tristar but not the same quality as a Franchi or Benelli.

I have no problem spending another $3-400 on the Franchi but it is almost a half a pound heavier than the Tristar and if I'm going to a 20 gauge one of the biggest reasons is to get something lighter.... The Franchi is pretty heavy compared to all of the competition.

You must have found a great deal on a Tristar if its $300-$400 cheaper than Affinity 3…

Are you trying to compare the 410 to the 20 gauge??

Like i told you, less than 1/2 pd. difference in the 2 guns, your getting a better gun and trigger system in the Franchi... IMO

If you're going to shoot something that heavy, why not just go with a 12 gauge then?

Hey Greg- I apologize if I came off as sarcastic.  I wasn't meaning to be a wise  and I sincerely respect your opinion. For reference  I already have 2 heavy dedicated Turkey guns so I'm looking for a lightweight option and the Franchi and SX4 seem to be very high quality but also very heavy.
