I never had a father figure in my life as my father passed away when my mother was pregnant with me. With that being said, I never had the opportunity to go hunting until I was out of high school and more or less on my own.
My greatest joy is going hunting with my son over the years and seeing how he progressed both as a man and hunter. We now have his wife involved in turkey/deer hunting so that is a treat to see her develop as well.
One day out of the blue he surprised me with a custom slate call he had made for me inscribed, To My father, My Best Friend, and Hunting Buddy. I take that hunting with me each time I go out.
I had this slate call made for him two or three years ago to remember me by when I'm gone. I think he killed this turkey the year after I had the call made and inscribed for him.
