Stevens 301 .410 issue.
« on: April 28, 2022, 04:05:34 PM »
Hey guys,
A friend and I have been struggling to get his 301 shot in with a vortex venom. I have an egw mount torqued to spec and I have ran the elevation and windage adjustments all the way in and out several times and purchased the U.M tactical Delrin shim and it still shoots low. Any ideas? I'm about ready to ship the sight back.

Look down the sight and see if the dot is moving while you turn the adjustment screws. All my reflex sights can move far beyond what I need them to in all directions.
Pick a line on a block wall, or a level piece of siding on your house. Look down the top of the barrel from the side so the level line rides on top the barrel front to back. Adjust the dot to sit on that same line as you bob your head back and forth from barrel to dot. This will get your elevation really close to zeroed.

Or better yet on the Stevens, break the action open and sight right down the barrel. Put the bead on the same mark as the barrel.

Yes I’ve had 3 of the 301 and all 3 shot 19”+ low. Mfg response was well there made in China.  Done with them. Good luck!

After I made the post we decided to bore sight and realized that the vortex sights dot stops long before we actually run out of adjustment. We adapted to the issue and made a thicker shim and got it shooting dead on at 40. This is just going to be a momentary "fix" because once season is over here in PA it's getting sent back. Thanks for the tips I appreciate it.

ive had a tru glo on the factory mount and a cheap sight mark on a egw mount and both had more than enough adjustment. I did take the factory mount off one time to try and use just the bead (attempting to make the gun light as possible) and it would consistently shoot low even when I felt like I was shouldered properly

I put an AT3 RD-50 on mine and it’s lights out. I’m so glad I didn’t spend the money on a Vortex I highly recommend the AT3 RD-50 and it comes with a lifetime warranty. That site paired with a Nitro .390 and nitro 9&10 blend tss shoots insane Good out my 301

I tried to mount a Burris Fastfire 3 on a Stevens .410 turkey using the factory rail. It shot about 18” low with no more room to adjust. I ended up mounting a Vortex Crossfire (1” tube) on the Stevens. The Vortex dialed right in. All was not lost because my son used the Fastfire on his Browning BPS 12 gauge using the Meadow Creek rib mount. The Fastfire worked fine with the BPS.

No issues with my Swampfox Kingslayer.  Good to know about the Vortex.

Mine shoots good with the bead and great with the swampfox. I have had no problems.
