.410 break action
« on: April 19, 2022, 05:00:53 PM »
Which .410 break action and why?  I’m looking at the CVA , Tuffy turkey and stevens 301.    My tristar had an issue and I lost some confidence in it.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I have the 301 and love it. For the money it is well built and lightweight. I put a bushnell trs-25 red dot on it. You can get them on Amazon for around $65. It shoots apex ninjas and federals well with the stock choke. I have not shot
but  handled the rossi and cva. The rossi is very light but doesn't seem to be as solid. The cva feels solid but is heavier than the 301. Good luck.

I can second the 301 being solid, but I have not owned the others. The 301 has survived rain storms, mud crawls, me riding an ebike, my kids using it and has never missed a beat. Hard to find anything better for 200 bucks and the factory choke is very good

I own the CVA and have shot the Rossi. CVA quality is great, trigger is awesome, barrel is clean, patterns good, but is heavy. Rossi is cheap as expected but feels real nice, trigger is pretty good, barrel is awful with waves and always dirty looking, patterns ok but may take work to get what you want, nice and light.

Some of my friends hunt with the 301. They are solid shotguns. My son as a cva scout 243. Its a good gun also. I like the feel of the 301 a hair better.

I only have experience with the Rossi. As with any rail, I took it off degreased it and loctited it in place. The barrel was filthy, I cleaned it. It does have waves/rings down the barrel.
It patterns well, is lightweight, the stock is my preferred profile, and the trigger is nice. All in all I am a fan.

As posted in another thread I got the CVA.  It’s a tad heavier than the 301,  but to me it feels more solid.  I also liked the fact it came with the Jebs choke.  Dang it’s a nice gun to carry around.

I have a Stevens 301 my son bought me to use since I had total shoulder replacement surgery 7 days ago. Opening day is 6 days away!
Honestly it wouldn't be my gun of choice but it's a killing machine! Great little gun!  It has a Holosun red dot on it with a Jebs XX Full choke spewing a tight pattern at 40 yards that would kill any bird.
I don’t want to take anything away from the Stevens 301, it’s a nice, well built, light shotgun.
The reason it is not my gun of choice is I prefer Semi Auto and pumps.

X3! Only i went with a Burris Fastfire 3, padded cheek riser to counteract that RIDICULOUS mount they include on the gun and a Carlson's .390 for my TSS hand loads.  No turkey on earth is safe from that gun to 40 yards and a bit further.
Big Al's "Take-em" Style Silhouette decoys Pro-Staff.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind te most.

I’ve handled all 3, and hands down the CVA is the better quality gun. Cost wise, when you factor in that it comes with a jeb’s, it’s almost a wash with buying one of the others and purchasing a good choke. At 7# fully kitted with vortex venom, sidecar with 2 shells and a claw sling and an OAL of 37”, it is a very nimble gun in the turkey woods.  I just shot my 3rd bird with mine yesterday.
