Model 42 pattern
« on: March 23, 2022, 10:00:09 AM »
Here is what the model 42 is doing at 40 yards. Foxtrot #9 load. That is on the far end of how I would use this gun. More like 20-25 yards which is most of my shots.

Model 12 with original Gibson call.

That should work just fine. Someday I'll get my hands on a Model 42, been hunting the same Model 12 for over 50 years.

I had a 42 about 20 years ago when they were affordable to buy, and was offered twice what I paid for it, weak moment I guess.  They are great guns, I looked at one in a shop yesterday and it was priced at 2500.00.  You have a fine example there reflexl.  My plans this year is to hunt with my M12 16 gauge.

what constriction is the barrel? That's a good looking pattern, when I first wanted to hunt with a 410 I really wanted to use the H&R my dad got me when I was 5 years old. The older ones were built like tanks, it weighs as much as a new 12g pump. It has a factory full barrel but even at 25 yards I couldn't get anything worthwhile out of it with federal #9. I ended up buying a 301 shortly after and have used it for several years now. Now that there are more options on the market for ammo and I have reloaded some of my own I might revisit bringing my first gun on a turkey hunt if I can find a load it likes

This is a full choke. I wont push it past 40 yards. Most of my shots are 20 to 25 anyway so it should do great.
