First box call build

Thanks Joe! I'd absolutely encourage you to make your own call. Its hard to describe how cool it felt when i got that box to make its first turkey sound. Its very gratifying to say the least.  Now i just can't wait to get it in the woods. Good luck to you this spring.

Your boxes look and sound great! I built my wife and I A box call and got to harvest A bird with it last spring, it’s pretty neat. They are ash top and bottom with cedar sides and oak ends.

I have A Deryal Helm one sider I learned on and just liked that style of box.

I have never played a one sider so i was just curious. Would make tuning take have as much time.

I lay it on its side and cup it makes it easy to purr,cutt and soft yelp. I have several box calls and the one sider is my personal favorite.

Was able to get a couple of sound files made. I think i got lucky on these first two calls. The third and fourth calls both had a dead side and went into the wood stove. Let me know what you guys think. Also i don't mind criticism if you have any.
Both bodies and lids came out of the same boards. Only difference is lid geometry and weight.

Hard to beat the feeling of achieving the sound you desire and take it to the woods.

Avoiding knots and good grain orientation will help maintain consistency.

I would just like to update on my progress. I did manage to call in a gobbler with the call with the rounded lid. My setup was poor so i didn't seal the deal.
That brings me to this offseason. I wasn't satisfied with the calls so i decided to tweak the design and make another batch of calls. I also traded a call with Kip from Ferocious calls and had the pleasure of talking with him about call making. He was very helpful in my call making journey and can't thank him enough.
I have 4 calls poplar boxes 2 with locust 2 with ironwood lids. Will try to get pictures up later. Any advice or criticism on sound would be appreciated. Also sorry for the road noise but the weather was pretty so i recorded outside.

Was able to use one of locust over poplar calls to bring this guy all the way to the gun. Ive gotten mixed results so far this spring with  my boxes but he sure liked the sound of that one.
