Long Beard 12ga 3” x 5’s?
« on: February 21, 2022, 09:21:27 AM »
 :morning:
I have several boxes of LB 12 ga 3” x 5’s and it’s looking like they’re gonna have to be my go to round this season as 6’s are non existent, so what chokes are y’all having luck with with short barrels? Thx!  :camohat:

The 3.5" shells pattern well out of my Mossberg 935 with an IC .675. I also have a Carlson's LB choke that I haven't tried yet.

REM 870 21 inch barrel. I use Indian Creek .665 with the LB 5’s. Also get similar results with the Carlsons Long Beard choke. The Indian Creek is a bit better…good luck.

I also use LB 5’s in my Winchester 1300 with 22 inch barrel. This pattern is 30 yards, I take almost all my birds from 35 on in….that’s my comfort zone….

Longbeard with the right choke shot through a 12ga is bad medicine. No need for TSS with patterns like that!

Winchester is too busy gouging prices on .223 and 9mm to make turkey rounds again this year.

I have enough LB #5’s stashed back for a long time, I’ve have good luck with 660 chokes, even the old undertaker choke does pretty well. The main thing is make sure of poa/poi, and don’t push the shots to far and are good to go! Bye the time turkey ammo will be available season will be over.

I patterned the new Mossberg in an 18.5" barrel yesterday with three different .660 chokes shooting Longbeard XR 3" #5's.

The Carlson's Longbeard choke was devastating for close shots but wasn't as impressive 30-40 yards. Indian Creek Black Diamond was the winner for me.

The Longbeard were certainly sufficient but I may still get some TSS to run through the chokes too.
