Salute to a Legend
« on: January 14, 2022, 10:07:24 AM »
Having a little fun with the memory of a legend this morning.Remembering one of the Greats!

                      "The Legend"
                  An ode to Dick Kirby
                        by Ted Rize

He's traveled every dirt road, every two track and trail. He shot his birds where others have failed.

He's hunted wild turkeys from Texas to Maine.
Some call him a badass, others say he's insane.
They call him the" Legend" the turkey guru. You cant says he's bragging if he's better than you.

Pick one sub species or all the above. When he throws them a cutt, they just fall in love.

His yelps bring'em running, they think it's a race. When they hear his cluck, they die with a smile on their face.

Yes they call him the "Legend" the turkey guru, you cant call it bragging if he's better than you!

Three year olds, four year olds, white heads,or red. If they like to sound off, you can color them dead.

Big ole hooks with beards, dragging the ground. When those birds talk, they're saying "Watch out, the "Legends"in town."

Yes they call him the "Legend" the turkey guru and you cant call it bragging if hes better than you!

He also carried a Ithaca Mag 10 10 gauge shotgun because they did not make an 8. ;D
Deer see you and think you are a stump. The Old Gobbler sees a stump and thinks it is YOU!

As a local WNY guy and fellow call builder, I enjoy going over to the Quaker boy shop and looking at the calls Dick made.  He was and still is a legend.
