Stevens m301
« on: December 13, 2021, 10:11:51 PM »
Well, I found the m301 in 20 gauge and .410 in bottomland and I think I am going to pull the tigger here tonight or tomorrow on both of them. I have the m301 12 gauge already and like it. I will use the .410 for grouse until they become legal for turkey hunting, hopefully soon but I will use the 20 for turkeys. I was going to try a o/u but I found these little guns and the 12 fits and feels great for me. My actual goal is to collect as many shotguns as I can, that are for "turkey" hunting. Its just something I enjoy doing and plan on keep doing it.

How do you like the 301 in 12ga? Seen one local and man it was light. Figured it kicks like an angry mule. I have a 301 20ga, love it.

The 12 has some kick but I have others that kick more, the gun shoots great.I ordered both, they both come with red dots.I wasnt really looking for those guns per say, I was looking for a henry single shot but came across those, our selection of "turkey" guns can be sparse.I buy them when I come across the ones that are rare. I may order a vortex red dot for the 20 anyway to use,I want to try a crossfire,I think.

I may order the comp n choke for the .410 and the 20 gauge early in January,I have lots of turkey chokes for the 20 gauge already but figure If i am placing an order for the .410 I will go ahead and try a 20 gauge, I do like the look of these chokes.

The pickings are very very rare as if now for any .410 ammo or turkey chokes up here, seeing as It it isnt legal yet for hunting. I know a dozen other turkey hunters that travel,or did to multiple states every spring to hunt. We should have the ammo selection to pattern our guns that we would take on a trip to those states. Our pos leader is just a useless sack of chit with no brains.

Our mnr is 20 years behind the times with any hunting related laws,or tags/draws. I hunt 150 days a year and used to guide/fish for 4 months a year and I have ran into two wardens fishing in my life and one while hunting,Ill be 42 in 3 months. They institute dumb laws and can't enforce them. There really shouldn't be any issues with .410's and the ammo choices not being legal,Its proven that shot has come so far the last decade that we here in Ontario are living in 1995 still.

Both the .410 and 20 gauge were delivered this morning. I should have some time later this evening to open and get them together and cleaned up.

Nice!

Just setup my Swampfox on my 20 gauge 301 with an EGW mount. Gonna test out the stock choke, Tightwad .570, and Pinhoti (Trulock) .585.  I have some Apex GT #9, Apex Ninja, Apex Small Town Blend, Rouge #9, Wilson's Custom Loads #9, Burgess Creek #9, Federal #7 and #9, LBXR #6, and Heavyweight #7s to play around with.

The stock rail does sit high,It looks really high with those eye sore tasco's installed, your setup looks great. Where did you get the rail? I can't wait until we can shoot 9's up here in the future.

Sumtoy makes a great one like the EGW as well, but he didn't have anything that would work with the Swampfox.

The one you have is perfect. I like these guns, the feel and how they shoulder for me is perfect. I hope they shoot as well, I am sure they will. I am planning on using the .410 for grouse hunting while I am away moose hunting until they are legal for turkeys, if ever.

I had a .575 undertaker non ported choke arrive earlier that I picked up from a member on here to try out in my invector 20 gauges. I'll test it with this gun in early spring.
