OK, trumpet guys....... Need your help, please
« on: September 20, 2021, 08:57:14 PM »
First off.......... I know next to nothing about trumpets.  I own ONE.  It was given to me.  I can run it.   But I can also swing a golf club.  But I can't golf.

I've been approached, via PM and otherwise by several individuals inquiring as to if and/or when I was going to do a trumpet holster.  I guess, maybe, now is when it's going to start into the design phase.

What I'd appreciate GREATLY from the trumpeters is this :

What is the length of your longest trumpet ??

What is the bell diameter of your widest trumpet ??

What would be the ideal number of trumpets to accommodate ??

What features would the perfect trumpet holster have ??

Appreciate everyone's help on this and THANK YOU in advance !!!

The Longest one I have is a little shy of 10 inches but the vast majority is less than 9. The majority of them are less than a  1 1'4 wide.

This is what I use to carry mine in the truck before they go around my neck.

A sheath or roll up for these tubes might be handy, but most hunters will wear them around their neck while in the woods

LOL....now that was funny!!!!

I'm anxious to see what you come up with. I supply a heavy fleece bag with my wingbones and Jordans, but you have to store them in your vest when not in use if you carry several and don't want them all around your neck.

Often, hunters tell me they are afraid they will fall on them and break them. Well, there's a chance for that to happen when you're hunting hard. I just tell them to hunt it and don't worry about it....if you break it, I WILL FIX IT!!!

It would be nice to give folks a little more "security". Keep us posted with your progress.

Oh, most of my Trumpets are in the 8"-9" range. Wingbones and Jordans are a bit shorter.

Excellent addition to the holster fleet. I would expect them to be as tank tough as the box call holsters!

My initial, mental picture is something that has both a belt slot AND a shoulder/neck strap...........sturdy leather tubes.......a flapped closure........

Just thinking out loud..........

Yep.   I'm sure most guys have their own, established system that works for them and they're sticking with it.   :icon_thumright:

But, I'd still be grateful to anyone who'd help me out with trumpet dimensions.   :happy0064:

Overall length: 8-9.5 inches for the trumpets I own.
Bell diameters: 1-1.25 inches.
The perfect trumpet holster? Probably one that holds a trumpet and a longbox, 1 each  ;D

There are times when I’m hunting and then there are times I am moving. When I’m moving I’m trying to get from point A to point B as quick as I can. This would be the time I’d throw my yelper in a holster for fear of catching it on brush or the sling of my gun and damaging it. I recall a gentleman that went by dragonfly and he made leather holsters and at one time offered a trumpet holster. I think your original idea is spot on with a belt AND a shoulder/neck strap along with sturdy leather tubes and flapped closure, this is similar to what he at one time made. I haven’t seen one of these for the longest time.

I use a cardboard tube with no topper in one of the slots in a Glenda Green satchel. A trumpet was my most used tool in the turkey woods by far this season. I like keeping it close, easy to access, but also more protected than around my neck unless I'm sitting down. I also wear a bino harness when moving, and don't like the trumpet bouncing off and around that. At a tree I will put the trumpet around my neck and take the bino harness off, as to be able to play the call and keep a gun shouldered without extensive movement.

I would think a custom made bino harness, with a trumpet case attached to the side of it could be a really cool idea.

With my trumpets I furnish a plastic adjustable screw tube
8 to 9 inches bell od 1.25+
They are pretty much crush proof and be tossed in with your other calls and not get scratched up
I've been hunting with them for over 8 years and no problems

Hey Yoder - I have a Permar Delrin .45 that's 9 inches long
and 1 1/8 inches wide at the bell.
