Should I mount a bearded hen or not??
« on: June 01, 2011, 01:21:45 PM »
Looking for opinions if I should mount a bearded hen I shot this year or not? It's in the freezer wrapped up just not sure if I should get it mounted or not.

It sports a nice beard that's the only reason I'd consider mounting it,,,thought it may be different.

Any thoughts?

I'm holding out for just the right bird as I can only afford 1 full mount. I would not do the hen, but that is a choice only you can make. If you have room and money is not an issue, do it!

Bearded hens aren't uncommon around here so I wouldn't mount one, but its a personal choice.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

If I get a crack at one, she is geting mounted!  I messed up in high school and let a girlfriend (evil witch) kill a hen with an almost 9 inch paint brush.  Oh, to have that one back . . .

If the choice was between a Tom and Hen then thats an easy no. If you have funds to do both then I say mount the hen. I think it would be a cool mount. Maybe would even make a nice scene if you put a Tom along with the hen.

I have a friend who puts the hurtin' on the Osceola's every spring and the only mount he has is a bearded hen. Guess he just thought it was different and that was an easy call for him.

I shot one with my bow in Sept. in MO. one year and she had a 10in. beard. So I waited until Jan. and shot another hen and had it mounted with the beard overlooking a nest of eggs.It is my best mount. So I would do it.
