Prayers that things go well
« on: April 23, 2021, 09:40:14 PM »
So I talked with the Mennonite I drive for last week and asked him if he would rather lose me driving him for the Summer or trapping season, he said he would rather lose me driving him during the Summer so I set an appointment to see my doctor and am hoping to have my left knee replaced right after turkey season. I am just hoping they will let me use the only mask I have found that I can use, a Allen Turkey Shocker! I was able to get my eyes examined this week with it and a hand held fan so I am hoping they will let me into the hospital to get my MRI

I am very claustrophobic and have had a very difficult time since all this Asian flue stuff started, last year, they would not let me get my eyes examined with anything but one of those thick masks and I can't even make a half minute wearing them.

I was supposed to have an MRI July 27th of last year but they would not let me into the hospital because I can't wear those masks (Even though they were in violation of the way the law was written at the time by not letting me in) and I am hoping things go better this time around because both knees are causing em lots of problems and the left is making it so I am often unable to sleep.

So basically I just want prayers that I make it through the season without further damage to the left knee (I could not get a brace because I could not wear the mask) and that it can be taken care of without any problem.

Edit:

They saw me and looking at my knees and the x-rays they said they did not want to do either of my knees until a new specialist joins the office in August. They said due to the amount of damage to the knees from deterioration, the staples in the left knee and the rod in my right leg that it required somebody that specializes in complicated cases which the new doctor does. They have told me in the past I basically have no cartridge left and it is bone to bone almost.

So now I am going there on Friday to have them look at my left foot, when I had my car accident in 88 the floorboards came up and over my legs and pinned me in and my toes had all been broken on the left foot except for the big toe which is why I had hammer toes repaired (Kinda) several years ago and not all of the toes turned out right. I know they were better than they were because when I was still able to turkey hunt on the ground when I got into the knees up position with gun on knees before the hammer toe surgery the toes jammed right into the ground and caused a lot of pain and after the surgery they did not hurt as much. Well the pinky toe if you will, or the one "That went wee wee wee all the way home" if you prefer has a bone that sticks out and is getting much worse and nothing that I wear on my feet is comfortable and all dig me toe raw where it comes to a point from the bone sticking t the side. so I am hoping I can get them to operate on that right after turkey season to repair that before the knees. So if you would please pray for that. On a side note I had always thought that the frostbite I had gotten in that accident had caused the hammer toes.

Prayers sent, I had double (bilateral I think they call it) knee replacement in 2016 and it was a breeze.   Well maybe not but you've already been thru alot so you will handle it ok just don't skimp on the PT afterwards.   I had surgery when the pain kept me from sleeping so know the feeling.   Used a walking stick and got off my feet as much as possible even when stopping and calling basically found a place to sit or lean anytime had to stand on my feet for awhile.    Some anti inflammatory meds helped and injections too but in the end nothing  helped not even the low dose opioids that I took at nite to try and sleep, knew then I needed surgery fast.   Take it easy maybe try a good therapist for the claustrophobia.   Hey my anxiety skyrocketed(never had it that bad before) after my quadruple bypass and not going back to work the therapist really helped me out.   Sometimes you just can't tuff it out by yourself.

Thank you for the well wishes. I guess I will update this now with this reply and then paste it up top to the original post. Prayers sent brother, hope everything works out well
Thanks bud, newest update is that the doc said he had never seen so much arthritis in a foot before along with at least two different kinds of arthritis, bone spurs and calcium deposits and that he could not make a determination and now I have an appointment on the 25th to see a specialist podiatrists that also does surgeries to determine if they can do any work on the foot or not. I sure hope so because to be honest I thought the knee would give me more problems this year but the foot has been far worse than the knee has so far, though I am yet to try to hunt on the ground, and getting back up will be pretty interesting. Might have to bring a tow truck or crane to lift my fat ugly self up off the ground. That or make me a bait pile for the coyote!!!
The other problem this brings up is that my boss wants me to be ready to take them trapping in the fall so if I can't get the knees done super fast I am going to have to wait until after next turkey season because I lost 17 years of hunting because of some idiot not paying attention and I do not intend to lose another turkey season, I could care less about deer season, yes I enjoy it and the meat but it does not even belong in the same chapter let alone page as turkey hunting. Oh I do not know if I mentioned it but they did give me a brace for the left knee for the time being.

Not as much as I thought I would have been able to because of the toe mainly. I hunt mainly out of ground blinds but still have to walk to them and the toe is quite painful. I picked up some moleskin today and am going to try to cushion the toe some so I can go out Thursday, I have to drive for the Mennonite tomorrow. What I meant from the ground is I had hoped I would be able to try to sit on the ground with the vest I have which is a RNG-300 but there is no way my toe will take the pressure and I am not sure my back and hips would anyway.

I just want to return to hunting outside a blind, I miss it. I bought a Hammock seat and also a M300 Millennium Tree Seat to try to hook to a tree and hunt but that has not gone so well at all.

I understand, I think blinds are very good, I've killed some out of them, but I don't scout enough, and hunt mostly public, so I don't leave them out, but I have learned a lot from using them,

I just really miss sitting on the ground and hunting. That is how I started, back then I would used a blind for deer hunting because the woods we hunted was mostly young and not to many trees to hang stands from. You do not really get to see the morning come to life the same as you do from the ground when you are in a blind and I really miss it. The big thing with the blind helping me this year is I have left my tripod and gimbal in the one blind that is waterproof ish and am mounting my camera when I get in the blind trying to get some picture of some turkey. Only deer so far.

Thank you and thank you. In blind now, hearing nothing but a grouse beating it's wings.
