Looking to get a new box
« on: April 21, 2021, 08:56:55 AM »
My old box call broke after many years. So I’m looking for a new one. I’m going to get a custom box just wanted to get recommendations on a long or short box. Thank you

A lot of great callmakers out there. Decide on how long you can wait .... and how much you can spend - and look back through a couple pages here on the forum ( box calls) for opinions and it will get narrowed  down for you. I have personally dealt with Josh Farley, Scott Witter, TJ Johnson, Tony Quarino, and Ralph Snodgrass—- and would recommend any of them

My favorite is a Marlin Watkins fiddlebox. He also doesn't have a list so you can contact him and get one straight away from what he has made already.
Tj Johnson is another great one, but he is probably gonna be about a 4-5 month wait for you if I had to guess.
If you like cost-style boxes I really like mine that were built by Frank Kruer III. Albert Paul is another that I have had experience with and enjoy. But I do not know the wait times for those two

All the ones mentioned above, and i will add Jeff Mckamey , Scott Witter and Jeff Lacey in no particular order, all of these builders are great to do business with and share few turkey stories. For long boxes, look at these same builders and i will add Ernie Fetters and Roger Parks builds awesome aluminum lid long box...

Marlin Watkins would be my first choice..He could probably fix you up pretty quickly..TJ iis probably 3 months out..Just got a snakewood from Tony..He had an extra one..Dave Tyree makes a great box..Go with Marlin and you won’t be disappointed..

S&S and Preacherman both are great and have websites with inventory from time to time. This is great for someone with limited time to wait and also gives you the ability to see the call you're purchasing which is helpful for someone that may not own very many calls or doesn't have wood combos in mind. Both these makers calls are unbelievably good and are of very high quality.

Lots of good box calls out there.   Hard to go wrong with TJ Johnson, Marlin Watkins or Scott Witter.
