Stevens 301 red dot sight in issues..
« on: April 10, 2021, 03:42:50 PM »
I purchased a sumtoy mount for my vortex venom 3 moa on my 301. Mounted both without issues. Went to the range today and started with dove loads at 10 yards. Was consistently 18”-20” low. Ran out of adjustment and could only get the center of the pattern to hit 5” low. Even tried going back to the stock picatinny rail with the venom but had the same results. Any suggestions?

You could try to shim the sight and that should add enough elevation correction.

Run the elevation adjustment all the way up and down till it maxes out each way 3 or 4 times alot of people have had this problem and this fixes it. If not they will replace it with their warranty.

FL strutter.... I tried that also to no avail. It wouldn’t adjust any further.

So adding a couple shims would bring my center point of impact up?

Yes you can cut small pieces of aluminum can to shim it I've had to do that before also. May take 2 pieces.

Gonna try a shim from the link that was suggested above. Will the existing screws work or will I need longer ones? Also, will the ship sit between the optic and the mount or the barrel and the mount?

Optic and mount I would suggest you probably only need one. That gives you a 1° elevation change. You can order 2 to be on the safe side but I bet one will do.

 Screws should be long enough.

I ordered 2 to be safe. To confirm, the shim goes between the red dot mount and the rail mount?

This works.    I have seen a bunch of folks with the Vortex doing this.   It happen few years ago and looks like it back.   It is crazy but works.

Did you max out in both directions 3 or 4 times in succession?
