Winchester 1300 choke for federal heavyweight 7s

I have a large stockpile of the old Federal heavyweight 15gcc 3" 7s. I'm looking at picking up a Winchester 1300 22" barreled turkey model. What choke would you guys recommend as a good starting place? I'm hoping to get somewhere around 200 hits in a 10" circle, but I figure 150-180 is more realistic. I know every gun is different, but I'm looking to minimize the number of chokes I buy looking for a solid performing combination.

Good luck with your new gun. Truelock makes a Specific choke for the Federal Heavyweight 7's. These shells do better out of non-ported chokes. His chokes are very good and reasonably priced. They shoot real well with Longbeards too. Be safe...

Spring Creek Calls

If your gun is a 20 gauge I'd try a Sumtoy .562, it did wonders for my 1300.

Do you mean FEDERALS Heavyweights? ;D

12 gauge:  Carlson's Longbeard XR .665 or Primos Tightwad.
20 gauge:  Carlson's non-ported .570 or Primos Tightwad.
A lot of guys knock the Tightwad as "cheap", but the heavyweights shoot like they're made for them.

Yeah, federal. That's what happens when you work 3rd shift and post in the wee hours of the morning, lol. Any idea on where to get my hands on a tightwad?

I have (3) of the  1300 turkey w/ 22in.  For hunting.. I actually prefer the factory Xfull choke in all of them, including the 20ga.  It's prefect all around for me..anything in #7 or #9

Borden811

This one has the factory modified choke in it, so I'll need to buy something regardless. Just trying to find the best place to start. I've shot plenty of the heavyweight shells out of my benelli and Remington guns, but I've never owned a Winchester before. Hoping to get some info if one or two specific chokes work best in the 1300 with that particular shell. My Remington 11-87 SP 21" barreled gun shoots them in the 160-180s with the Turlock TSS choke, but it prints about 8" right. It's not drilled and tapped, and I want to leave it factory original. This 1300 is drilled and tapped, so if it doesn't shoot to the beads, I can easily ad a fast fire or venom, and get it dialed in. I also have a good amount of the "old white" hevi 13 3" 6s to run in it, and of course, if all else fails, some federal tss 9s. I'd like to get the heavyweights going in it though.

I just got a 20 gauge Win 1300 22" barrel.
But as far as those loads in the 12 Remington 21" barrels, The .640 Carlson has been the best performer with HW7's 3".
Defeat that 12 gauge flight control wad.

I tried that .640 Carlson. Was good in an 870 I used to have. Only turned 120-130 in the 11-87. The trulock TSS #7 choke is the best in it, out of the 10 or so I tried.

I just looked for about 20 minutes trying to find a .570 mossy threaded tightwad choke and couldn't find one. If I'd known they were as rare as hen's teeth I wouldn't have suggested it.  That being the case the Carlson's are hard to best but Sumtoy probably could I'll bet.

I lost about 3 hours of my life yesterday trying to find one in 12ga. I finally did, or at least that's what I ordered, and it was "in stock". We shall see what shows up. I'm really hoping it's not the invector+ tube. Those are a dime a dozen it seems, but the invectors are scare. Gonna see if I can find a Carlson's longbeard at a decent price, and if I can't, just go ahead and call William.
