Picked one up today after reading about it.  My plan is to kill one bird with it and then take a pic with the gun and retire it until my grandson is ready to hunt it (he is 18 months).  A few other young'uns in the family ahead of him that may use it.

The place I bought it (local gun shop) had the Federal TSS 9s.  After sighting it in (came with optic) with some game loads in close, I shot it at 30 and 40.  Did not take pics.  The 30 was pretty good and the 40 would have killed the bird, but not the nice even pattern I am looking for in a kid's gun.  I did not count the 10, but I would guess about 100 or so at 40.

My plan is to polish the barrel and then give the stock choke and the Federals one more try.  If I am not impressed, I think I am going to try the Nitro ammo and choke.  Saw one on here that had 9x10 that looked most impressive.  I am not chasing numbers, just want a nice even pattern in the 10 with no holes and probably the 130s as a good starting point.

I got one last year for our state's juvenile turkey season.
Kept factory choke and used federal TSS rounds.
Restricted child from shooting beyond 30 yards.
Worked very good.

Mine was awful until I really cleaned it good. I used factory choke and apex 9.5. Got 274 at 35yds

I may do that too top when there is a kid behind it.

I have heard several people say that skim, so I am gonna clean it good.  have everything I need to polish, so thought I would try that before switching ammo.

That was what I found/felt after shooting mine.  Still plan to tinker a little, not chasing numbers either and agree 130 + would probably build more confidence in reaching out towards 40 if needed

I wasn't impressed with the factory choke so I ordered an IC .390 because I'm limited to #8s tss. I now average 130 in the 10"@ 40 yards. I was hoping to get over 150. The barrel was deep cleaned...

I got my 301 before last season.  Have tried both the factory choke and a Jebs.  Using Apex Ninja 9 1/2 and Federal 9s see the Jebs with the Ninja is better but only slightly so.  At 30 to 35 any combination mentioned would kill a bird.  Took two with it last year.  Both within 30 yards.  Checked the zero last week at 30 yards and plan to use it for this Saturday's Florida opener.  I'll be using the Jebs and 9 1/2 Ninjas.  Good luck.

IF I HAD IT TO DO OVER i wouldn't of bought either one of the Steven 301 T in 410 or 20 ga. I should of took the money i spent on the 2 and bought a better gun in my opinion just not happy with the gun's and once i removed the base rail and saw what they had holding those 2 screws for the base rail, that was another disappointment.  MY opinion buy yourself a better gun.

I will no doubt get him a better gun one day.  If this guns gets shot 10 times I will be amazed.  It is a first bird type gun.  My son was shooting a 20 at 11y and a 12 at 13y for ducks.  You are for sure right, it is not a high quality firearm, but it is simple and cheap.  Just a starter pop gun for him.

Keep in mind that this was with reloads. Mine would put about 102 in the 10" at 40 yards with #9 shot. I loaded some #9.5 shot and started getting patterns in the 150 mark. I got a pound of 10's to try. Waiting on a nice day that I am not working to try them out.

Used the 301 with 9 1/2 Apex Ninja and Jebs choke to take a mature Osceola Saturday. Added a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 for this season.  Everything worked as it should.
